How Does Dishwasher Cleaner Work & Other FAQs

You might not know that using dishwasher cleaner is a crucial part of helping to maintain your dishwasher. Over time grease, debris and limescale can build up on various important components of your washing machine, causing blockages, bad smells, and other issues. Dishwasher cleaner helps ensure that your machine continues to operate smoothly and cleans your items beautifully.

Finish® offers two types of dishwasher cleaner that can be used in different ways; either in-wash with a full load, or when the machine is empty.

To use Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner, first make sure that the dishwasher is empty. Check that the filter is clear of any leftover food or debris.

Step 1: Remove the sticker from the cap of your dishwasher cleaner bottle. Do not remove the cap.

Step 2: Place the bottle upside down inside your silverware basket, or any bottom dish rack.

Step 3: Close the dishwasher and run on a high temperature cycle. Do not add any other detergent or cleaning agent to the wash.

Step 4: After the full cycle has completed, open the dishwasher, remove the bottle and recycle.

Step 5: For heavy build up you may need to repeat the process.

You can use Finish® In Wash Dishwasher Cleaner on a weekly basis to avoid grease and grime build up and keep your dishwasher sparkling clean.

Step 1: Fill your dishwasher and place your standard dishwasher detergent in the closing chamber.

Step 2: Place In Wash Cleaner pouch on the bottom of your dishwasher and run a regular dishwashing cycle.

Cleaning your dishwasher is necessary if you want to help maintain your machine.

Like any other tool or appliance, your dishwasher needs regular cleaning to keep it in good condition. While your machine can continue to operate without routine cleaning, over time, grease and imescale generates build-up, and can interfere with the cleaning action and potentially producing bad odors.

We recommend using a dishwasher cleaner like Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner once a month (or as soon as you notice build up) to help keep your machine smelling great and cleaning properly. You can also use Finish® In Wash Dishwasher Cleaner for a more frequent clean alongside your dishware.
